With only one competitive game scheduled for December I have decided to combine my review for November and December a review which started and ended with 3-1 wins against Islington…..
You may remember me saying last month that I like my glass to be half full when it comes to Wanderers, but at the end of November I had just finished that drink.
The season's third month has been a very disappointing one for all concerned.
Two extremely poor performances against Bison and St Johns in which we have looked a shadow of our former selves. In a nutshell, November has seen us slip from the improvement made in October.
It is said that this month (December), is crucial in how a season unfolds for a club. It also brings us to the halfway point, and if you're not there or thereabouts at the top now, you can kiss your promotion hopes goodbye.
Promotion is no longer a word in the Hounslow Wanderers dictionary, and the only way it will be in next year's edition is if we fail to achieve what now has to be our ultimate goal - First Division survival.
We have simply left ourselves far too much to do in the second half of the season to even contemplate a respectable finish in May. Two wins in nine games is a disgraceful run considering the talent we have. But that is the
harsh reality that faces us in the New Year and we have got to start winning sooner rather than later. Finally… food for thought….By the time we next play in the league both Ealing and Islington would have played another three league games!!
It is now time for my monthly awards:
Player of the Month
This has been the first month of the season where there have been no obvious contenders for the award. I apologise for my lack of creativity, but I am going to have to give Player of the Month for the sake of it.
Goal of the Month
Not many to choose from unfortunately, but I will give this one to Robert Howard for his effort at home to Islington. Great build up play leading to a simple tap-in.
Performance of the Month
It goes to the second game against Islington. League points away have not been easy to come by this season so no contest!
Idiot of the month
No contest. What exactly was he trying to achieve against Bison?
What does January bring? An away trip potential banana skin cup tie against third division Harrow St Mary’s followed by the league…. When it is likely we will start the year at the bottom. It doesn't get any easier.
