Review of the month - Frantic, fantastic February
February has been an interesting month for the Purple Haze. Despite the shambolic display against South Kilburn, we have looked good enough to remain in the First Division following a very encouraging home win against Harefield and a draw against highflying Parkfield that have added fuel to our claims for a place in this league next year.
I am obviously confident that our objective can be achieved, and at long last whatever I have been saying to the squad (with the obvious exception of the South Kilburn game, where you don’t need me to tell you how pathetic we were) has been getting into the players’ heads. There have been times where the football has not been pretty, but for the most part it has been effective, and after all, it’s results that count, especially when you’re down at the bottom at this stage of the season.
They say all you have to do is not to loose your home games, so to extend our unbeaten home run is an encouraging sign of things to come. If we can keep that going for the rest of the season then we should be fine – but I would like us to start putting in some better performances away from Warren Farm particularly as we probably won’t have another home game until April.
It is now time for my monthly awards:
Player of the Month
I am going to give this to Ricky Casse this month. Basically this is because I have been pleased by the way in which he has adapted to playing in a number of roles this month.
Goal of the Month
I will give this one to Sandro Mosquera for his first goal against Harefield, a master class in the art of heading.
Performance of the Month
I certainly know which game won’t win this, but the less said about that the better.
It goes to the victory against Harefield. It was a vitally important game for us after the previous Saturday, and we proved that we were still up for the fight with a comfortable win.
Idiot of the month
This month’s joint winners are the linesman who cost Jas Sangha a perfectly good ‘one on one’ goal opportunity against Benfica, and one more valuable point. Closely followed by the Parkfield linesman who really should have gone to Specsavers and definitely cost us another 2 points in our fight to stay up
What does March bring? Three back to back Away games with the stand-out fixtures obviously being the two six pointers against Islington and Ealing, the biggest games of this season. I can’t believe Sky are not showing them! Elsewhere there are games against free scoring (and leaking) Fenerbahce. It’s time to stand up and be counted, don’t expect it to be straightforward!
