Trading Standards
Dear Trading Standards...(A message to the players)
I am writing concerning the information I was sent with regard to renewing an agreement that
had just expired with a company. The packaging and accompanying material with the renewal form
looked expensive, and carried the legend "We are serious about promotion, are you?" This implied
that the business in question – a football club – was seeking advancement in league placing. The
only way I’m aware of achieving this would be to improve the personnel representing the club.
There was some doubt in my mind whether or not I wished to renew my agreement with the business,
after the level of service they offered me was severely below the standard I had expected. When
I read my renewal agreement and saw yet another significant increase in my own stress levels, I
feared that I may not be able to justify the cost to my health.
However, since the accompanying show material and catalogue had clearly seen considerable investment,
and the messages contained there within were so optimistic, I became tempted to stretch myself to
enable me to continue enjoying my agreement with the company. Upon finally hearing announcements
from club players suggesting that the extra effort and commitment to the club was going to me made, I was sold.
I renewed my services with the company in good faith that the implied improvements in the service they would offer
were to materialise. Before the season started I was concerned at the lack of incoming personnel to the club -
they signed some staff that had been with the club before on a temporary basis, and a couple of youngsters.
My question is, do I have a case for misrepresentation against this business? I feel that I have been mis-sold a
substandard product, for a renewal fee much greater than I was anticipating to be investing for a renewal of these
services. Had there been any evidence of this extra effort from players? – part has been in turn invested in improving
the services offered by the company then I would be satisfied, but this does not appear to be the case. It appears the
business in question is offering a flawed product.
I would be grateful if you could confirm or not whether or not there is any kind of action that can be taken, for I feel that
I have had my loyalty and goodwill well and truly taken advantage of, and would be keen to try to recoup any sanity that I
have already parted with.
Yours faithfully,
Vip Mair |
